ActionSpace at the RA

29th September 2021

ActionSpace artist Nnena Kalu has been invited by the Summer Exhibition co-ordinator, Yinka Shonibare, to exhibit at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition 2021. Nnena's work is featured in Wandsworth Council's FRAMED project, which saw Wandsworth High Streets transformed into outdoor gallery spaces throughout 2021, and is a regular creative contributor to Wandsworth Arts Fringe, taking part every year since the festival's inception in 2010 all the way up to 2017, and again in 2020. Nnena has created an exciting new series of sculptures specifically for the exhibition.

ActionSpace artists Andrew OmodingChandrakant Patel (part of WAF project Assembled Lines in 2019), Ian Wornast and Patrick Moses were also selected to exhibit in the Summer Exhibition.

This year’s Summer Exhibition explores the theme of ‘Reclaiming Magic’ to celebrate the joy of creating art. Yinka Shonibare said “This exhibition seeks a return to the visceral aspects and the sheer joy of art making. It will celebrate the transformative powers of the magical in art and transcend the Western canon which formed the foundations of the Royal Academy, seeking to restore value to marginalised practices as equally valid forms of enlightenment.”
