In Secret Dens Review

By Nadia

The ‘In Secret Dens’ event was both incredibly creative and fantastically unique. This experience consisted of QR codes scattered around a small portion of the Riverside Walk, participants were invited to listen to the sounds provided by the QR codes and to sit back and enjoy. Anyone who participated could listen to the music on their phones while sitting and blissfully enjoying the view of the river. Although simple in theory, the experience was innovative and allowed visitors to come and go as they please, freeing them from time restraints and judgement.

I visited the event with my mother and we both found it fascinating how accessible it was to the public. Yet, everyone around us seemed unaware the ‘In Secret Dens’ event was taking place there. Without clear signposting, it was nearly impossible to realise an exciting experience was at your fingertips. Even my mother and I thought it was difficult to locate, as there was a slight walk and a bit of guessing to eventually find it.

However, the experience was otherwise interesting and engaging, making a usually uninteresting Thursday evening more memorable. ‘In Secret Dens’ featured many different artists, we particularly enjoyed the sounds of Dora Grabkowska, Catia Fontes, Ina Leah and many others. The music itself differed greatly from artist to artist, but kept similar themes of city noises, the ocean and nature. Lots of musical variation made it enjoyable for more people and gave listeners a chance to form opinions on what they liked. Overall, ‘In Secret Dens’ was a fun, calming way to explore new music and experience something extraordinary.
