Meet WAF 2024's Young Reporters

27th May 2024

Introducing some of the WAF Young Reporters 2024 - a cohort of fantastic young people from Wandsworth aged 14-19.

Our WAF Young Reporters have been stepping into the shoes of a radio broadcaster with Riverside Radio, learning how to conduct and edit interviews for live radio broadcasts. They've then been putting their skills into action interviewing an array of incredible acts from the Wandsworth Arts Fringe 2024!

Check out their radio interviews below!

Meet Leona...

My name is Leona, I’m 17 years old and I’ve recently started my own podcast! However, I have put it to a stop because there is still so much I need to learn about the podcast world. So that leads me here, where I hope to learn as much as I can and take it away with me and only go up from there.

Listen as Leona interviews Eleanor Penfold about her show Serene Sounds.

Meet Yash...

Hi, my name is Yashand I’m 16 years old. I love doing lots of different things especially in music and flying. I play guitar and piano and love listening to music in all genres, especially hip hop.

Listen to Yash's interview with Louise and Tomislav from The Baked Bean Charity about their show A Piece Of Mind.

Listen as Yash interviews Stephanie Burrell about her show Birthday Fish.

Meet Lilly...

My name is Lilly, I’m 16, and I’m so excited to be a part of this opportunity. Radio has always been something I’ve been intrigued by, as it allows you to talk to and get to know a range of different people in the arts.

Listen as Lily interviews Lisa Goldheart about her exhibition The Tarot of Southwest London.

Meet Khianna...

My name is Khianna and I am 14 years of age. I like all things performing arts from plays at the theatre, musicals and ballet. In my spare time I dance at MV Studios and I train in drama at Group64. I also like to visit historical places of interest with my national trust card and read books where I learn about my heritage through Black history and European history. I like to keep up with current affairs to try to understand politics. I am inspired by Oprah Winfrey and the power of the media. I want to take part in this programme to learn new skills, meet likeminded people and make a difference.

Listen to Khianna's interview with Nicola Sterry about her show Spreading The Joy.

Sadiyah...

Listen as Young Reporter Sadiyah interviews Chiara Vascotto about her show The Apprentice.
